Paul Costelloe

The King of Equestrian Chic this Autumn/Winter 2010 is Dubliner Paul Costelloe. With his sharp and pristine tailoring, he makes this trend stylish and sophisticated rather than bland and barnyard. With Costelloe's vast amount of traveling under his belt, working in Paris and Italy to the UK, he likes to keep his collections fresh, but this season he has returned to his roots, and we LOVE IT! Mr. Costelloe's collection consists of key materials like tweed, made of shades of cream and brown but he also presents us with a contrasting dark blue version. His cool country vibe is a vital look this winter and he certainly knows how to utilise it to his advantage.

Think tweed, jodhpurs and riding boots. If a dedicated follower of this trend purchase both heeled ankle hiking boots for night chic and long riding boots for a casual adoption of the trend. I would say incorporating riding crops to your outfit would be taking the love for equestrian hotness a step too far...that is more so bordering the dominatrix line!

The best feature about this trend is it can be worn for any occasion given the right accessories. Office wear, casual, for a night's perfect and Costelloe makes this work, especially since the majority of Irish folk live around horses! We all should be experts at this look! Given the fact I live by the Curragh Racecourse and own two horses I feel that I can carry the chicness of it quite well, I already have my riding boots, both for casual and evening attire, along with my cream jodhpurs and checked/tweed shirts :)

In my experience the Equestrian look does indeed exist back home, but just in a different manner. And by that, I mean a more so scruffy manner! This trend back in Kildare involves baggy t-shirts, warm jumpers and dirty jodhpurs. The only garment that does resemble Costelloe's collection would be the massively over-sized gillet but that's as far as it goes :)

Many of the high street stores are bang on trend with this look so nip into the likes of Topshop and Zara for a wee goo! Here's two fabulous blazers from Topshop that I am very tempted to purchase.....Think Preppy. Customise casual blazers with tight trousers/leggings with heels for a night out or a cute skirt for more sophisticated occasions.
